25/01/2009 - Business Rates Rise Again

The Government has decided to increase business rates by 5% in April 2009.

The rise was calculated on September's Retail Price Index, which has since fallen to 3%.

The Association of Convenience Stores has hit out at the Government's decision. It comes at the worst possible time for the retail industry - it is a very uncertain market and yet retailers are being hit with the biggest rate increase since 1990.
