Ninety-five manufacturing companies have had their gas supplies cut in the face of record demand caused by freezing temperatures.
The companies were on interruptible contracts where the suppliers can interrupt supplies, if necessary, in return for providing them with slightly prices.
The interruptions were caused by local shortages in distribution networks in the north-west and east midlands.
