21/02/2007 - New power station will double CO2 footprint

Friends of the earth have made claims that the proposed gas fired power station to be built in Pembroke docks would double the county’s CO2 emissions – Pembrokshire emits 4.4 million tonnes. However this has been labelled as scaremongering by council leader, John Davies, who is keen to attract the plant to Pembrokeshire as it will create 100 well paid full time jobs and 1000 jobs during construction and provide electricity for 3 million homes. Friends of the Earth claim it will produce 5.5 million tonnes of CO2 a year, and suggested a smaller power station using combined heat and power. In response to these claims, John Davies has said “the claims are beyond belief in my opinion”.
