01/10/2007 - Raising the age of sale of tobacco

From Monday October 1st 2007 a change in the law will make it illegal for retailers to sell tobacco products to anyone under the age of 18 years (increasing the age from 16 years)

Retailers will now need to ensure that their customers are 18 years old or over before selling tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, rolling tobacco and papers both over the counter and through vending machines.

Pentalies include a fine of up to £2,500. Failing to display the statutory notice carries a fine of up to £1,000.
