Chilled and frozen foods distributors are key to a number of parties, including catering, schools, pubs, hospitals, hotels and restaurants. Some, notably LEA’s tend to have separate deliveries for chilled, frozen and ambient goods, and use different companies to supply each. This has lead to a number of the larger distributors having separate depots. The trend now is leaning toward multi temperate depots so good can be supplied all in one go. The frozen foods can range from meat to vegetables to desserts. Chilled goods are mostly dairy and ambient goods are things like flour and fresh fruit and vegetables through collaboration with a green grocer, sometime larger distributors have their own grocers. This means that the whole of the UK is supplied by a single grocer for that distributor. But there seems to be another change in trend as to source local produce as a solution.
